Gen2 Conference 2019 4 squares snip

Our first annual Gen2 conference was full to burst! We hope that it was inspiring, fun, interesting and resourcing.

We invited some of the leading national thinkers and practitioners to join us and share their freshest research, resources and practical solutions for working with all ages. Bishop Donald spoke and led us in worship, giving us space to be refreshed.

It was great to see groups from your Churches, young leaders, Champions and delegates from this years CMC as well as many other individuals coming to receive support and inspiration.

Our Speakers

Anna Hawken

Anna is the National Parenting for Faith Coordinator and joined the team in March 2018.

Before this, she was a Children’s and Families’ Minister in St Albans for six years, where she ran Parenting for Faith courses. Her messiest ministry moment was being turned into a snowman with multiple cans of shaving foam.

She now lives in Milton Keynes with her composer husband Matt and their two small children. She cheats at life by living next door to her parents who provide an emergency storecupboard for her regular baking emergencies and extra entertainment for tired toddlers.

Jason Royce

Jason is the Director of Souster Youth Trust a charity working in local schools to support the social, emotional, and spiritual needs of young people. They also work closely with churches and community organisations to help youth ministry flourish in East Northamptonshire.

Jason has been leading youth work/ministry since 2000 and has included time with Westminster City Council, Youthscape and Romance Academy. Now, breaking new ground in the Northamptonshire area, he works in schools and alongside churches training and equipping them to reach out to the young people in their community and make disciples of those they already have. He follows The Way of Jesus and loves BBQs, American and bushcraft survival. He’s married to Katy and they have a son called Jesse.

Bishop Donald

The Rt Revd Donald Allister was installed as the 38th Bishop of Peterborough on 17 April 2010. Bishop Donald has wide experience of the Church of England and has served in its national and diocesan structures as well as in parishes. As Diocesan Bishop he fully supports the work of the Gen2 Team and with his leadership team, the Diocese is working towards prioritising young people at every level from clergy appointments and training to the community outreach of every parish.  He is married to Janice, a GP working in Peterborough. They have three grown up children, one of whom is a vicar in Nottingham, and two grandchildren. He is a keen reader of science fiction, and enjoys hill walking in the Lake District and Scotland. The Rt Revd Donald Allister was installed as the 38th Bishop of Peterborough on 17 April 2010.

Prayers

We ran out of time to use these prayers – but you may like to use them in your church when you pray for young people:

Intercessions

Father God, who created a world of wonder and joy;

Loving parent to each and every child

Inspire us today and lift our eyes towards you in awe

We lift to you families – children, young people and parents in our churches and communities.

Those we know, those we see around us and those that you see, know and love.

Give us your creativity and your unconditional love to reach out with grace.

Inspire us today and lift our eyes towards you in awe

Lord Jesus, who welcomed the children;

Who stirred up change, challenged and disturbed.

Engage our thoughts and ideas and open our eyes to injustice

We see unfairness all around us – children in poverty and need, young people suffering in mind and spirit.

Show us ways to shine your light of joy into corners of darkness.

Engage our thoughts and ideas and open our eyes to injustice

Holy Spirit, who lives in the hearts of young and old;

Who breathes life into the children of God

Guide us this day, teach us something new and give us child-like eyes to see truth

You know where we are on our journey in life; you know the burdens we bring with us.

Help us to lay those before you now – for ourselves and those we know and love.

(moment of quiet to lay our burdens and worries before God )

Give us now a sense of your peace and a freshness and clarity of mind and spirit.

Guide us this day, teach us something new and give us child-like eyes to see truth
